Final Score 14-30

Judes today took on Normanton U16s at the Meadows in round 1 Barla National Cup.
Judes knew they were going to be in a hard game but after the preliminary felt confident of giving them a really good game.
Normanton scored 1st and before long Judes were trailing by 10. Judes forwards were doing a hard job and making those all important meters but the Normanton line stood firm.
However some good back up play saw Judes cross the line with Nathan Holland. The ball went the other way towards Judes line but a superb line tackle from Jaiden Drachenberg kept them out.
Normanton then scored again but Judes weren't done , some great pressure and quick hands saw Jaiden Drachenberg cross the line .
The game started to get a bit heated , a few big hits came in to play and Judes were up for it once again.
Before long Judes were on the Normanton line once again and a cheeky crash over came from Ryleigh Moore .
Judes were right back in it with only 4 points the difference.
Normanton used there attacking line well and scored a couple more , putting out of reach for Judes.
The lads should hold their heads high , they played a good team and did a really good job on the pitch , the score doesn't do this game justice.

Sunday, 30 January 202216's - GoldsHindley u16sHome36-20Our u16s kicked off their season and Cup run today in the u16s BARLA National Cup against local rivals Hindley.

Hindley only recently promoted to join Judes in the u16s Premier Division, so it had been a long while since these two teams had met.
Friends outside of rugby, both sets of lads desperate to beat their mates really set the scene for a cracking game played in great spirits.

In the first half, it looked as though Judes were going to run away with the game. Going in at half time with 18 unanswered points.
Tries coming from Judes Louie Caddick and Lewis Topping both scoring out wide from perfectly fed kicks from Corey Roden and hooker Rohan Green crossing twice through great footwork and good support play.

As Hindley are known to do, they simply wouldn't roll over and after a Judes fumble on their own line one minute into the second half, Hindley crossed the white wash to get onto the scoreboard.
Judes became their own worst nightmare for a good 20 minute spell, silly errors seeing them handing the ball over to the visitors. The penalty count grew and grew against Judes and Hindley took advantage of this and found themselves just 8 points from levelling the game at 18-10.

The home team then levelled play out once more and, from a Hindley error, Judes full back Austin Daniel collected a loose ball and flew down the left wing to settle Judes nerves and get them back on track.

Again Hindley came back with a well- worked try before another try from Judes full back, Austin Daniel, knocked the wind right out of Hindley.
Most certainly the try of the game, Austin collected the high Hindley bomb on the last and glided through the opposition, weaving his way through the entire Hindley squad and covering the length of the pitch to dive over under the sticks - you'd never know this lad was playing an age group up! Superb.

Full of fire, Judes used fast play and another perfect kick from the boot of Corey Roden over the top for winger Lewis Topping to collect in the air and ground in perfect fashion.

Hindley having the final say of the game with another good try.

Corey Roden added 8 points to Judes final tally with some great conversations.

Final score was 36 - 20.

The Judes boys were happy to have blown away the cobwebs in a competitive game. No game time for months is certainly not the easiest way to go into a game against your local rivals but the lads took it in their stride.

M.O.M was Corey Roden for a superb display in the halves, leading the pack from the middle and a great in-field kicking game.

The coaches were happy with the team performance, special shout outs to Rohan Green, George O'Loughlin Lewis Topping and Austin Daniel for stand out performances and great control and to the big man himself, Malachi Price, for coming back from a niggling leg injury and working hard all over the field in attack and defence.

For the next round the lads have drawn current NWC League Champions, Blackbrook Royals. Away at Blackbrook!
We go again!
Sunday, 30 January 202218'sShaw Cross SharksHome10-24Today was our first shot of the National Cup and we welcomed Yorkshire side Shaw Cross Sharks to Judes. We were confident going into the game, but it’s a big ask to play in such an intense game coming out of pre-season. Unfortunately we were on the wrong side of the score-line today, but there were lots of positives from the game.

Our start was ferocious, we came out strong in both attack and defence and really tried to put a marker down in the game. Brogan scored a great try first half, showing good support play and strength to make it over the line. We had a couple of chances to go ahead, with a good chip and chase from our captain Cal, unfortunately we just couldn’t gather the ball in cleanly. We also created an overlap and if the ball could have been taken cleanly, we would have been over again. Sadly, we went in half time 10-4 down, but still very much in the game.

Again Judes start the second half strongly and another inspired chip over by Cal, saw Daniel W chasing the ball, although the Sharks player gathered, great defence from Daniel to trap him in goal for a drop out. Judes started to attack our opponent’s line and a strong pass from Roman to Daniel W saw him over in the corner, astonishingly, the ref called forward and denied us the 4 points. Judes seemed to get hammered with penalties which hampered us gaining any momentum second half. A quick break from Brook and Cal sparked Judes into action and whipping the ball out to the wing invited our fullback Jack to come bursting onto the ball and score an impressive try. Converted by Cal, saw us claw our way back to 10-16 and all to play for. Again, we were punished with penalties that saw Shaw Cross score a couple of tries off back-to-back penalties, which won them the game 24-10.

A good game to test us out and show us what we need to work on, just disappointing that it’s a straight knock out competition and we’ve had an early exit from the cup. Looking back on the game, if we’d executed a little better and kept up the intensity in defence, the outcome could have been very different. We weren’t a million miles off and more game time will see a massive improvement. I’d like to give a shout out to our prop Tom who put his body on the line today, was immense running the ball and tackled like a demon, keep it up Tom! Also our new lads from 16s, who were strong and slotted in the team seamlessly. Let’s keep working hard and come out fighting in the NWC League.
