Sunday, 25 June 202310's - GoldsWesthoughton LionsAwayX XWe made our first visit to Westhoughton on a very warm morning for our first match in three weeks due to consecutive weather related cancellations.

We started off with the kick off and Zaine did a great job with the kick off to retain possession for Judes. Early pressure from Judes forced repeat errors from Westhoughton. Unfortunately, we couldn't convert the pressure into points after encountering a resolute Westhoughton defence.

As the half went on, Westhoughton gained the advantage by capitalising on errors by Judes scoring three tries and converting one.

We went in to half time for a cool down and a reset after heads started to drop. We reminded the kids that it was only little mistakes that had made the difference in the first half and to keep believing in themselves and playing the way we know we have recently.

The second half started with a renewed sense of belief, with the best example coming from Elliot, who broke the line and darted up the pitch, putting us in a good position to attack the line. The resulting set got the ball out to Jacob, who forced himself over the line under pressure to grab our first try, which was not converted.

The pressure for Judes continued, with great examples of play from across the team working hard to get us up the pitch.

After a penalty following a foul by Westhoughton, we had another set, which resulted in Harry H crashing through a number of defenders to score our second try of the game, which wasn't converted, this left five minutes on the clock to draw level.

Westhoughton responded with some good play to force the ball out, which caused an overload on the wing, this left space for an attacker to take advantage and extend their lead. Their try was converted.

Following on from this, we tried to claw ourselves back into the game again, showing some resilience in defence, with Reagan throwing some great tackling into the mix. Westhoughton finished off the game with another try out wide, which wasn't converted.

It was a great effort overall in the heat, with the kids showing a great deal of resilience to get themselves back in the game. Comments from the opposition coach saying how much we've improved from the first game are great to hear and are another example of how far we've come this season.

Players of the match

Coaches - Reagan for great efforts in defence throughout the game.

Opposition - Zaine for a number of strong tackles and good runs
Sunday, 25 June 20238'sLeigh EastAwayN/AIt was a hot hot Sunday Morning over at Leigh East this morning. Our lads travelled over to Leigh east ready for their first game in a few weeks. They all warmed up ready to go. We had 4 subs meaning lots of rest for the boys making sure they could defend well when playing. First up our lads got off to great start with their defence and they were brilliant most of the time remembering to stay in their channel and help out when needed for the big strong kids. The communication between the lads was fantastic. It was our turn with the ball and we were trying a new technique we have been learning in training +1 it got off to a wobbly start but they got the hang of it Finley H was our +1 and he made some awesome passes. Some of the runs from boys were big and hard straight towards the defenders of Leigh east. The lads got the hang of the +1 and started to knuckle down and it became a bit more natural. The kept their head in the game even when they were down on the trys. The lads kept talking and going to back to their training it’s fab to see them as a team working together. Joseph and Zach passing the ball when they can to try and get a try for the team. Carter played outstanding this morning some of his tackles were textbook and he was straight in there. Joseph had turned into a little machine when he’s running the ball and it’s great to see to see his confidence come through. Josh plays like he’s playing for Wigan Warriors and his tackles are insane and his runs are even more impressive. Oliver plays that ball so well and always looks for the gaps to score the trys for the team! Logan what an outstanding game he and he even felt a bit offside and still wanted to go back on and play again! Zach he may be small but he’s one to watch he can run and some of the tackles you’d think he was 6ft tall he has no fear at all. Patrick did brilliant today and got really stuck in and rna the ball in hard and fast well done. Finley H he knows this game so well and can read it well he runs the ball and did some great tackles for the team helping stop some of Leigh East try’s. Henry B what a player he is he’s quick, nimble and can run the ball with no fear. George U is a fantastic player week in week out and he ran the ball so hard today and nearly got us over the line. George S did so great little steps today and his confidence has come on leaps and bounds over the months he’s a great little player.

Coaches Player - Oliver S
Parents player and Opposition- Henry B
Top Tackler - Josh L
Sunday, 25 June 202310's - MaroonsSaddleworth RangersAway30-20It was the first game in over a month for the Maroons and it was always going to be hard with only having the bare 11 available. They came up with a fantastic defensive display restricting the opposition to just 1 try in the first half, this was highlighted by Jacob Holliday finishing the game on 21 tackles. Everything from the long travel to losing 2 players to serious injuries in recent weeks made today an uphill struggle but they did the club and their coaches proud. This team has really turned a corner in recent weeks and we hope that this continues.
Sunday, 25 June 202316'sLeigh Miners RangersAway19-16Judes travelled to Leigh after a few weeks off looking to complete a rare double over local rivals miners.
Early exchanges were tense and neither team were able to complete sets, maybe the layoff proving costly and it was Miners who struck 1st 6-0. The game continued in the same pattern, scruffy, tense and very even before Alfie Tate crashed over under the sticks converted by Deecan Snape to level the scores just before the break. Ht 6-6
The 2nd half was again set for set with both teams pushing hard , a controversial penalty gave Miners field position to again take the lead out wide 10-6. Judes never backed down a clever drop goal by Jaiden Drachenberg before a suberbly worked try from Ethan Shelmerdine put them infront 13-10.
The tide still had time to turn again though in the last 10 mins Miners took the lead back out wide and brilliantly converted 16-13 and 5mins to go the home side surely thought they had it in the bag, but this year's 16s just refuse to buckle and up stepped man of the match Connor Roberts bursting his way through the line holding off defenders to claim a superb victory, again converted by Snape.
Judes upto 2nd in the league.
Sunday, 25 June 202311's - GoldsShevington Sharks HammerheadsHome24 - 6After a short break, due to the weather, the kids were eager to get back to games.
Our oponents were Shevington Sharks Hammerheads who we had played earlier on in the season. The last game had been a good game and we were looking forward to another good game, this time at home.
The game started well with Owen Collier going over the try line and Dalton Jones securing the extra 2 points. This was soon followed by another try from Jacob Daven and a successful conversion. Shevington scored shortly after the second half started but this was soon followed by another try from Jacob Daven and 2 points from Isaac Atherton. Jacob Daven was then almost over for his third try of the day, but seeing he had time to pass to one of his team mates, he passed to Mason Ash who went over the line and scored the conversion.
Unfortunately, the game was cut short due to an injury for Shevington. Already low on players both teams decided to finish the game early.
I am glad to say after a visit to a&e the injured player is now recovering at home.
A big thank you to Kyle for reffing the game today.

Sunday, 25 June 202318'sWaterhead WarriorsAway26-18A very hot and sticky day as we welome Waterhead down to the meadow. Tough conditions to play in, but Judes did just enough to take the win.

It took Judes a good 10 minutes to spring into action, due to not playing for a month, but it was Waterhead who were first to attack our line. A hand from Frosty denied Waterhead temporarily, but a repeat set was just too much for our defence and a grubber unluckily ricocheted off a Waterhead player and landed perfectly in the in-goal for Waterhead to dive on and score. Think this was the wake-up call Judes needed, as a great kick off from Judes ran dead for a drop out. Although Judes knock-on, superb defence from Sean, sets the platform for Ethan and Roman to force Waterhead into touch. A Judes penalty for holding and 6 again propel Judes into good field position and our Captain steps up to score his first by steaming onto a drop off ball and no stopping Calum from that range! Converted by Roman, makes it 6 a piece. Judes were a little hard done to when a Waterhead kick ran dead, but the ref awarded a drop out to Waterhead, luckily they knock-on and surrender possession. Judes had ball in hand and are soon in Waterhead’s half and a chip over is chased by Brogan, who showed great hands, picking up the ball on the run and dove over to score. Roman kicked it between the uprights right on the stroke of half time, giving us a 12-6 lead and a welcome break.

Judes came out second half lacking some energy and again Waterhead are the first to strike exploiting our tired defence and bringing the scores level 12 all. Judes had to muster that energy and better defence cause Waterhead to knock-on and after being caught off-side, Judes attack the Waterhead line and a good charge by Roman gets us close and sets up Calum to again steam onto the ball and twisting in the tackle shakes off the defence to dive under the sticks and score his second. Great defence from Judes deny Waterhead after repeat sets and turned defence into attack, but equally good defence from our opposition deny us in the corner. Judes defend and Tana came onto the pitch and put his body on the line, forcing Waterhead to knock-on and turn the ball over. Waterhead are caught off-side and the resulting penalty in-front of the sticks gifted another 2 points for Judes. Calum should have been in for his hat-trick as he ran at the defence like a raging animal, pushing players off, dummying and finally reaching out to score, unfortunately the ref couldn’t see the grounding, so Calum was denied what would have been a superb solo effort. Judes weren’t finished just yet though and a short kick-off from Waterhead was taken cleanly by Rohan and Judes started their attack from just over half-way. Brogan took the ball up and had been itching to score his second, he breaks the line and powered through running a good 50 metres to out-run the defence and score. Converted again by Roman, who was 100% with the boot today! Sadly Waterhead had the last say of the game, when they exploited a gap in our defence and dove over to score, bringing the score to 26-18, thankfully there was only a couple of minutes remaining in the match and Judes come away with a tough win.

It was really tough to play in those conditions today and it’s amazing that the lads took the win. Stand out player and well deserved Man of the Match was our Captain Calum who again dominated throughout the game. Coaches Award goes to Sean, who was outstanding today and defending like a demon. Hopefully we’ll get a good run of games now to go at. WAOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Sunday, 25 June 20237'sSt PatsAway0-0After missing a couple of weeks, there was a lot of excitement to be back out playing against local rival St Pats. The match kicked off with great intensity, with players from both sides displaying exceptional energy and enthusiasm.

In both games WSJ showed great defence, preventing Wigan St Pats from making many breakthroughs. With the defensive line really working well and all going together as a team.

But it wasn't just their defence that impressed; they also showcased their attacking abilities. Thomas W, Jake A, Jack H, George C, Christopher B, Archie B, Thomas S, and Owen F were all instrumental in breaching the Wigan St Pats' defence and scoring fantastic tries.

Recognised by the opposition coaches for great performances were Thomas S, Archie B, and George C, well done boys!!

This week the coaches had a difficult task in selecting player of the match with everyone playing really well. However, Forrest R and Jack H stood out for their exceptional contributions and were rightfully rewarded with the Coaches' Award.

Overall, it was a fantastic couple of games. The young players from both teams should be proud of their efforts and the skills they showcased. Superb effort boys!!!
