Judes 14-4 Halton Farnworth Our second midweek game in 2 weeks with conditions that were too scorchio to play rugby! Judes v Halton are always tasty affairs, although Judes didn’t get off to be best start and after conceding back to back penalties were in trouble, but again our resilience not to allow any points gave us the strength to force our opponents into touch. After attacking at the other end from a knock-on from the restart, somehow the direction switched and Halton were storming our half. After a chip over took a wicked bounce, it was Halton who were first to react and ground to record the first points.

Halton got the ball back and were again attacking our line, but our steadfast defence wasn’t having any and stopped them short, this was the turning point of the first half, as Judes managed to get some quicker play of the balls and Lewis Pinder did what every good hooker should and run from dummy half. He scooped the ball up and just kept weaving in and out until the try line was close enough to dive over and score. Conversion was successful by Callum Silcock and put us 6-4 in the lead at half time.

After a well earned breather and plenty fluids at half time, it was time to go out and win this game. Again Judes initial set wasn’t great and surrendered the ball when forced into touch. A good break from Junior though got us in a great attacking position and set Leon McIntosh off on a strong run who spied the try line and somehow tip toed his way through 3/4 defenders to score a strong try. Halton peppered us with high kicks second half with the sun in our eyes, but Alfie was safe as houses at the back. Big hits in defence force the knock on and Judes were ready to build for their next points. The gaps were now starting to appear and some really sharp passing down the line gave Reagan Sumner just enough space to squeeze over in the corner. The conversion unluckily scrapped past the goal-post, but hopefully this game was now in the bag at 14-4. Halton did try the short kick off to regain possession, but didn’t quite make the 10. Judes start their set, but to everyone’s relief I think, the final whistle goes with a determined win for Judes.

You have to commend both teams for playing in those conditions, they were all troopers! Not once did Judes take a backward step in running that ball up and were still putting in the big hits in incredible heat! A fierce game and good to come away with the win and again only concede the 1 try. Well Done boys and keep up the hard work!!
