Sunday, 11 September 20229's - GoldsSaddleworth PanthersAwayX XWe made the trip over to Saddleworth this morning for the first time today. A long drive and an early start combined to add to the challenge at hand.

We came up against a very well drilled side today who were very effective in defence, which created a lot of problems for our attack.

In defence we were solid throughout, full of effort up to the final whistle, picking up a fair few bumps and knocks along the way for our troubles.

All in all it was a good game of rugby against a well drilled team.

Players of the match

Adam - Leo for a strong defensive display, taking on kids of all sizes without taking a back step

Chris - Jayden for an inspired performance, being brave in attack and great efforts in defence

Michael - Finley for some strong defensive efforts and brave carries

Opposition - Sam for great efforts through the match in attack and defence

Sunday, 11 September 20227'sShevington SharksAwayNaA great morning of rugby down at vicarage Lane. From 2 teams boasting 18 players each.
Some hard running on both sides produced some fantastic try saving tackles. Josh Lynch Harry Schofield all picking up a tip tackler award.
Going forward for judes tirelessly were George Unsworth and Oliver Scott who support play and fast feet helped them run in several tries each. Special mention to Joe Lang who despite being the smallest on the field showed great bravery and skill . Carrying the ball fearlessly and getting offloads to set his team mates up. He earned opposition man of the match.

There were bumps bruises and big hits all morning but 36 young players left the field smiling after a great entertaining battle against a very well run and pleasant Shevington team

Thatto Heath v Judes U15s

Today Judes travelled to Thatto Heath for a must win game.
Judes were up for it from the start but so we're Thatto . Judes scored 1st followed by a conversion which went in off the post . Thatto , not to be out done , kept coming with some great attack but Judes defence stayed firm . When Judes had the ball it was being worked well in all directions but Thatto were keeping their defence tight .
Thatto made a break a scored a well worked try and Judes were annoyed they had let their line be broken . Both teams scored again but Thatto missed a conversion. Both teams played hard today and there was some great rugby on show .
Final score Thatto 10 v Judes 12

Sunday, 11 September 202213's - MaroonsWoolstonHome18-12Sunday lunchtime and there was a big game at the top of the table. Table toppers Jude’s Maroons were taking on high flying Woolston. It was only a few months ago where a last gasp try by Woolston had knocked the Maroons out of the cup. There is not much between the two sides so we were expecting a very tough and close game.
A very poignant minute’s silence for Her Majesty the Queen preceded the game and black armbands were worn.
Woolston kicked the game off and it was a nervous start for the Maroons. A bit of miscommunication at the back and they allowed the ball to bounce and it went straight out of play for a line drop out. We were going to have to defend very well to keep them out. Some unbelievable tackling from Edwin not once but twice. There seemed to be more than one of him on that pitch. Harry, Thomas and Jack Worthy also with some great defence to keep Woolston out.
There were mistakes by both sides in the early stages. It was going to be the first team to see out their sets and do the basics that were going to get ahead in the game.
On the last, a kick from Zac up the field and a fortuitous bounce for Ellis and he was off. Ears pinned back and no-one is stop this lad in full flow. 4-0. Billy with the conversion from in front of the sticks. 6-0.
Hopefully we would be able to kick on from here. Some great tackling from Woolston and we were struggling to get out of our half, a kick on the last was slightly miscued and ended up with their winger who put on the after burners and he went over underneath the uprights. An easy conversion to level the scores. 6-6.
Straight from the kick off a dropped ball and the Maroons were right on the attack. Thomas with a good run to Joel and within sight of the try line, he offloaded to Jacob who then passed to Kaden to go over in the corner. No better way to respond to a try conceded to score on of our own. Harley with conversion to reclaim our 6 point lead. 12-6.
Some big hits by Billy, Kaden and Sammy keeping our lead intact then another try from Woolston and they went over again to level the scores. 12-12. A lot of people had predicted a close, see-saw battle and that is what this was. 12-12 at half time.
A big team talk was required at half time. This half of rugby was going to determine where the season was heading. Nerves were on edge throughout the half with no real chances for either side just some strong defence from both sides. A mistake from Woolston and the Maroons had a whole set just a few metres out. Thomas with a great run to Zac who was able on full stretch to put the ball over the try line. The crowd erupted. They knew how much that could mean when all is said and done. Harley with the conversion. 18-12.
Time was ticking down now and it was all about game management. Maroons calmly played out the sets not doing anything silly and with a kick on the last the ball was forced out of play by Woolston and the final whistle went. What a result, Final score 18-12.
So it all comes down to next week against Halton to decide where the title could be heading. A win or draw and it is the Maroons. Halton still have another game the following week so will only be decided if the Maroons get a positive result next week. Well done everyone involved!
Sunday, 11 September 202211's - GoldsFolly LaneHome32-0Match report 11/09/2022
Wigan St Judes U11’s Golds V Folly Lane.
We welcomed Folly Lane down to the meadow this morning, a first time playing each ither with the recent group changes.
We started the game with a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth but also our very own Gary McMahon who both sadly passed away in the past few days.
First half:
Judes got the game underway as they kicked off towards Folly Lane, Folly lane knocked on, Judes ball, some excellent passing got the ball out to allow Joey Adair to score the first points of the day. Conversion missed.
Judes fought well to keep Folly Lane away from the try line, before Jayden King sent Archie Unsworth powering over the line. Conversion made.
Again, Judes kept Folly at bay and wouldn’t let them up the field. Judes got the ball and drove it well, using the space on the field to spread out well, Jayden King weaved his way through the opponents to score a pearler of a try. Conversion made.
Folly did well in the next set who took Judes off guard and got up the field, only for Judes to defend well from their own line, not allowing Folly to score. Judes then had to work hard as they had a full length of the field to work at, again some excellent attack from the whole team sent Henlea Baynham to the white wash. Conversion made. Another fumble from Folly gave Judes the ball back, on the stroke of half time, Will Cobley used his amazing footwork to guide himself to the try line. Conversion missed.;

Second half:
Folly kicked off to Judes, an amazing offload from Henlea Baynham, gave Freddie Davies the opportunity to use the power he got past not one, not two but 3 defenders to score an excellent try. Conversion made.
Folly fought back and worked their way up the field, but Judes were too strong, the teams defence today was outstanding.
A brilliant run from Archie Unsworth, offloading to Will Cobley who got us centimetres from the try line, played the ball to Jayden King who did a quick pass to Toby Hutchinson who got himself a try. Conversion made.
Folly Lane fought to the end, but Judes were just all over in defence, Archie Unsworth played a massive part throughout and deserved his second try of the game as he powered over the line. Conversion made.
Folly were unable to keep hold of the ball and knocked on, Judes played it well, getting it out to Joey Adair who went over in the corner for his second of the game. Conversion made.
With just a couple of minutes to go, Paddy ‘power’ Kelly and Ollie ‘hulk’ Caddick pushed the Folly player back about 15 metres, Folly knocking on. Following this Paddy Kelly took himself to the line, to score the final try of the game, conversion made.

Conversions made by Jayden King 8/10
I would just like to give credit to the players at Folly Lane, they came with small numbers, new players and they never gave up.
Each and every player that put on a Judes shirt today, well and truly played their part. Amazing effort lads. UTJ

Possibly the best they've ever played, especially against a very strong group A side. Some of the rugby in the first half in particular was beyond their years, particularly Judes' first try which saw excellent link up play between Tommy Gleeson and Ethan Cozens.

Judes continued to dominate throughout the match and were defensively strong against a very big Cadishead side
