Woolston RoversHome16-11
After a week off, Judes were looking forward to getting stuck in and pushing themselves for final places. We welcomed Woolston to the Meadow who we managed to beat at their place last time round. It was a very strong start by both teams with Judes line speed and ferocity in defence, forcing Woolston into 1 man rugby. Judes were keeping Woolston penned in their own half, but unfortunately ball in hand work didn’t come off. It was 25 minutes before the first points were scored and they went to Woolston. We got pulled to the left from a scrum and didn’t shift quick enough. Woolston went on to dominate possession for the next 5 minutes and went over again to take the score to 0-10. But Judes hit back right on the stroke of half time with great structured play down the left, with a kick from Jake to Jordan who crashed over in acres of space.
Half Time 4-10.
Second half started very similar to the first, although Judes seemed to be giving the ball away cheaply with loose carries. As the game was 3/4 through. Woolston lost 2 players and the game was there for the taking. Kian made a huge break but no points came from it. Judes next try came from Rio on the right as Woolston defence was stretched. But the next turning point was a Woolston drop goal that ignited the spirit back into Judes. They went up the other end and gained a penalty, unfortunately the penalty was mis hit, but positively Sam chased the ball down and scored under the sticks. The only job left to do was to look after possession. Soon enough the final whistle came and it was another win for Wigan St Judes under 16’s. Very pleasing to come from behind and stick with it.

Crosfields cane determined to take the points and almost did until A fine break by debutant Will Duffy, paved the way for Noah High to crash in under the posts to take the win for Judes in the final minute.

Joe Wilson 1
Noah High 1

Danny Frost adding 1 conversion and a penalty.

Wigan st judes 22 v 28 Salford city roosters.

Today was semifinal day down at the meadow.

Today's opposition was a team we have played twice in last two months and beat them convincingly.

It didn't start well for judes and were soon behind and looked to be going in at the break 0 -16 until Layton Cottom put some points on board.
The second was the same as the 1st and judes were playing catch up. Tries from Liam Grant and Alex birch got judes back into the game. Only for judes to allow Salford score a vital try, which would decide the tie. A late try from Liam Grant put judes just 6 points behind the clock had run out for judes.

This was a game judes on paper would have been favourites to win but judes were their own down fall. So now we must continue with winning the division.

Next game is an away game at woolston on Wednesday night.

Award winners this week:-

Man of the match - Liam Grant.

Parents man of the match - Jack Buono-Lester.

Coaches Award - Layton Cottom.

WIGAN ST JUDES GOLDS U13S 25 LEIGH MINERS RANGERS U13S 22

Today was the game we had all been waiting for, the clash of the titans! Both teams had been battling it out for Prem top spot for months with Judes just edging Miners by one point in the league and a game in hand it was all to play for!
Judes managed to win the league game earlier in the season but then fell short to Miners in their second meeting in the Lancashire Cup so with one win each, both teams were desperate for the two points today.
The game started in the worst possible way for Judes, a long kick off landed straight in the hands of the talented Miners second rower who saw a gap on our wing and flew straight down the touchline with great speed and scored under the sticks. Extremely frustrating for us. 0-6
The Golds restarted when a tremendous kick from Oliver Wright rolled over the dead ball line and forced a drop out. Unfortunately, Miners spotted some uncovered ground and a hanging ball gave their forwards enough time to dash out and snatch the ball right back. Judes caught sleeping once more! Judes managed to defend this set but the ball went high on the last and Austin Daniel looked to spill it backwards the ref had a different view and awarded a knock on just ten metres out. Again Judes defended and again Miners were awarded another decision right on our line, this was one too many for the lads and with sloppy tackles Miners went in for another under the sticks 0-12
Judes picked up a little after this second try and with remarkable kicking from Oliver Wright and a huge, hard hit from Malachi Price that forced Miners to knock on in their own ten, Judes finally got a share of the spoils with the big man himself , Malachi, forcing his way over in the right hand corner. The kick sailing just wide 4-12.
But it was the Miners who finished the first half strong going over with a nice chip over from their half back who collected and grounded his own kick under the sticks. 4-18
Trailing by 14 at half time to Miners is not exactly the worst score in the world but we hadn’t even got started and we knew if our boys played their normal game we could easily match them if not push on to win. The half time chat with a bit of an ear bending with the lads told that we expected more in the second half…and that’s exactly what we got!
Judes started hard and fast getting right in the faces of the Leigh side. Jake Hare won Judes a penalty having the ball ripped from him following a fantastic run up the middle before Malachi Price set off on a monster run after cutting the Leigh pack in two, again the ball was stripped from him illegally and with hard drives and sheer determination Keegan Boyd crashed over under the sticks from a scoot from ten out. Corey Roden adding the two 10-18
What followed from our boys was nothing short of outstanding. The lads really switched on and went after their closest rivals with fierce determination and the perfect level of aggression. Every tackle was heartfelt and every run was determined and fearless. Props Elton Paplekaj and Jake Hare making the hard yards in the middle whilst Luis Houghton, Malachi Price, Keegan Boyd and Oliver Wright attacked the wings. Causing Miners all kind of problems set after set. Tom Anderson and Aron Fleming were tested countless times out on the wings and they soaked up the pressure time and time again. It was pressure from Tom Anderson that saw the Miners fumble a chip over with Tom stretching to snatch it from their fast centres grasp. From here the forwards yet again drove the ball upfield and, just as he looked to be held up, Keegan Boyd managed to turn away from the tackle and sneak the ball over. The kick sailing just wide. 14-18.
To say their tails were well and truly up would be an understatement, the whole atmosphere had changed and the boys knew they were closing in on their shocked opponents. Another couple of sets passed before Miners were awarded a scrum just ten metres out from our line. It was looking really nervy before again Tom Anderson stepped up piling pressure on the second receiver who fumbled the ball, taking the pressure off our boys. Our tired legs kept working as Elton, Tom and Keegan drove the ball downfield before the kick went over on the last. Collected easily by Miners they went to drive the ball up the middle but half back Mason Fillingham had other plans, he tackled the Leigh runner with great technique and caused him to knock on, Mason grabbed the ball and almost went over himself caught inches from the line. Jake Hare tried the scoot but spilled the ball over the line. Miners quickly grabbed the ball back but speedy Judes winger, Tom Anderson, pinned the Miners runner in the dead ball area and forced the drop out. Full back Austin took the ball from the air with ease before Oliver Wright made great yards to get Judes over the half way line, as did Jake Hare next but the ball was spread quickly through four pairs of hands with power house Keegan Boyd waiting on the wing to crash home and level the scores. The kick sailing wide 18-18
We were level and just hoping we could grab the next try and finally get infront for the first time in the game, our luck was in and as Miners tried the short kick off big Mal Price dived on the ball and ran the length of the field to score under the sticks. The atmosphere was electric as Corey hit home the two points and the lads found themselves 24-18 up with just 7 minutes to go.
In true Miners fashion, they never gave up and they pushed on to get the next try. They worked the ball to the wing with weary legs and a few missed tackles their lightening fast centre flew up our wing to dive over in the corner. Kick to come. We all held our breath as the Miners kicker placed ball on tee but luckily for us the kick sailed JUST short of the bar and left us infront by two. 24-22
The ref had called two minutes and the Miners were on the attack. They broke our line on the third run but Austin Daniel managed to tap the ankles of the speedy half back and take him down. The Golds got in the faces of the Leigh side and the touchline went crazy as good line speed and pressure saw the Leigh loose forward fumble a catch. Panic over. With 60 seconds on the clock our boys went for safety and scooted the ball upfield and in the final play of the game, Corey Roden hit the one pointer to seal the deal…and the crowd went wild!
An outstanding match that didn’t really deserve a loser. Miners are a wonderful outfit but we were ecstatic to get the two points. We are now 3 points infront in the race for the title and it feels great!
All the lads worked out of their skins today. Corey, Tom H, Mason and Oliver bossed from the middle with all of them producing great tackle counts and Corey and Oliver putting in great infield kicks throughout. Centres and wingers Aron, Tom A, Malachi and Luis stayed strong out wide for a huge majority of the game and showed that our new structure is working well for us. Taylor Kerr bossed the rucks at loose forward and tackled anything coming his way whilst Keegan, Jake and Elton made wonderful yards throughout. Austin cleaning up at the back as always.
I can’t tell you how proud we are. Well done lads.

Lancashire Cup semi final

Wigan St.Judes v West Bank

Today Judes hosted West Bank at the Meadows and what a great morning it was .
Judes took the ball from the K.O and weren't in any mood to sit back n take it.
Judes started well running the ball hard , shifting it down the line and defending well .
Judes delivered 1st blood with a great try which was converted. From there Judes took a bit of a beating with West Bank scoring 4 trys but only converted 1 . Judes were losing the plot a little but kept at the West bank side honest at all times .
Half time came and Judes weren't for letting this slip through their fingers with ease . Every single player wanted this and were willing to go out in the 2nd half and give it to West Bank .
On they went and took it to them straight from the off . Scoring 2 trys n converting both ...... 18 each and both teams doing their best to win the game . Both teams defending like their lifes depended on it and neither wanting to take a backward step .
Final whistle came with the scores level and the ref took it to Golden Point .
Both teams took the game at each other but in the end West Bank got over the line n took the win.
Judes should be extremely proud of the team they have become over the last 2 years . The emotions every player showed at the end of that match were clear for all to see and hats off to West Bank who didn't really celebrate as they knew they'd been in a real game to the end .
Big thanks to West Bank coaching staff for their comments to our players at the end of the game ...... they knew they had been in a competition.
From us as coaches we would just like to say great game by both teams but we are massively proud of our Judes team at all points and every single player.
Great game lads ..... Get your heads up ...... #proudcoaches #proudparents #upthejudes

Captain for the day - Brad

It was a warm morning down at the meadow St Judes Golds were waiting while the referee checked Leigh's passports - all checked and ready to start!

Myers, Oakes, Elwick & Casey take in some brilliant runs - Golds passing was good but not quite up to scratch - a knock on and it was turnover to Leigh - Golds stepped up with some great defense - Charnock tackled to Leigh to the ground - however they were determined to break through Golds defense which they did Leigh's number one broke through and there was no stopping the whippet - over the line and converted the try!!
