ASKAM 18-35 WIGAN ST. JUDES
Judes travelled up to Barrow for this play-off game and came away with a good win. The visitors laid siege to the hosts line and after a couple of near misses it was prop Arron Smith who crashed over near the posts and Danny Fallon added the extras, from the restart Judes fluffed the kick off and in the next set Askam brought the scores level 6-6. Judes got a roll on and Gavin Rodden took advantage scooting 60 metres up the blind side touchline to go round the posts again Fallon converted but yet again from the kick off Judes let the ball go dead and from the drop out Askam made them pay with another close range try. It seemed to be a you score we score situation and good field position saw Danny Fallon put M.O.M. Gavin Rodden in for his second Fallon made it 18- 12. Judes managed to secure the restart and within three plays were on the Askam line and hooker Jason Holland put Tom Owen over with a neat flat pass Fallon again obliged with the conversion to make it 24-12 at the break. The second half was all Judes assisted by the prevailing wind which half backs Fallon and Rob Fenney used well. Next to score was Connor Parkinson who chased a neat kick through from Rodden and won the race Fallons kick drifted wide but he made amends dropping a goal shortly after following good pressure from the Judes pack. Then came the try of the game as stand in winger Dec Parkinson scooted 50 metres down the touchline evading three tacklers to draw the full back and slip the ball back inside to the supporting Rodden for his hat trick Fallon finshed Judes scoring with the extras. Askam did manage a consolation try when once again from the restart Judes fumbled the ball and from the scrum the home side worked the ball to the Judes posts and forced there way over 35-18.
Next week Saturday Judes host Saddleworth to decide who gets promotion K.O. 2.30 at the Meadow.

Wigan St Judes 16-6 Westhoughton Lions

Today at the meadow we welcomed Westhoughton a team that have been playing good rugby at the top of Group C.

The first half saw both sides testing each other to see if there was any weak points and sadly both sides had none. As both side were as equally matched it took a while before the points went on the board. Judes were the first to score with Layton Cottom going over, Lions didn't give up and it took some good tackling to keep out the Lions. Harry Stokes felt what Lions could do when putting himself in front of Lions attack. Lions did eventulaly break through and at the break it was 6 a piece.

The second half saw Judes step it up to the level that they can play at, the lions found it hard to contain us. With Joshua Mawdsley running freely and being denied close to the line. Judes then stepped it even more, Scott Finney ran the ball in on the left, brushing off tacklers only to have the ball knocked out?

Lewis Banks started to control the game with some def kicks that trobled Lions and Rohan Green picking holes in the Lions defence it wasn't long after that, when Layton went in for his second. Lions did mount a couple of attacks only for Judes defence to stop them in their tracks, a kick from the Lions saw Callum Siddeley cofidently collect the ball and return it.

The third and last try was well worked up the pitch to see Rohan Green go over to seal the win.

After last week's disapointment the boys have worked well in training this week to turn themselves around.

Well done boys!

Wigan St Judes u12s Golds 42 14 Rochadale Mayfield U12s
The Golds welcomed Rochdale Mayfield down at The Meadow this week. Heading into the unknown having not played Mayfield since Under 8s level. Rochdale are an A group team so, although we always fancy our chances, we didn’t expect to walk away with the win today given the group difference.
The lads had other plans though and started with two very fast tries. One post to post effort from Malachi Leo Price and another from solid running from powerhouse centre Elton Paplekaj, fending off all that came into his path. The first kick sailing wide but the second converted by Keegan Mobey 10-0
The Golds were dominant in defence not giving the Rochdale side a chance of getting out of their own half, they were soon on the prowl again and a quick step from Keegan Mobey saw him grab a try. Converted by Dylan Gregory 16-0
The best try of the game followed with the lads pressing once more a good effort by The Mustangs seemed to be keeping The Golds at bay, Oliver Wright put in a genius chip over that he followed up himself, snatched from the bounce and dove over under the sticks. A proper little show-boater! Kicked by Aaron Bolton 22-0
The final try of the half came from good hands. The backs linking up to spread the ball wide to Malachi Price who hit the line before hitting a supporting Dylan Gregory on the wing and sending him over the white wash. The kick just slicing wide sending us in at half time 26-0 up.
The second half was a different tale and although the lads didn’t play badly they slacked a little with a bit of “We’ve already won this” attitude creeping in.
Elton started proceedings with his second of the match, again just using his strength to bat off defenders and score, the kick sailing under 30-0
They had one very strong runner who we continued to allow space to in the second half and he used the space well. Going over in the corner. The kick just missing 30-4
Mal made up for this lapse quickly though, another full lengther from him swinging the celebrations back the Judes way. Tyler Foster adding the two 36-4
The game finished with a few try for try sets. Rochdale managed to get over for two more with the big lad from bagging a hattrick, Judes began to rise to disciplinary issues on the pitch which resulted in penalties making it easy for Mayfield to gain yards up the pitch -The lads let the opposition run, but, as I said before, we’d got a little complacent with such a great start and laziness and a little cockiness played a big factor. Judes got over once more from great hands sending the ball across the line with Aaron Bolton diving over after great support on the wing. Converted by Malaki ‘Paddy’ Cullen.
Massive tackle counts today from the boys in what was a hard hitting encounter. Tom Hill, Aaron, Bolton, Mal Price and Elton Paplekaj racking up huge tackle counts today.
On a whole, another good game from the Golds. They spent a huge majority of the game not rising to disciplinary issues and just getting on with the rugby which is really difficult at this age. However, we know we can play much better and our last two fixtures before this one had much more skilful play and effort until the final whistle.

Judes v Ashton Bears

Today Judes hosted Ashton at the Meadows and what a game it turned out to be .

Judes kicked off and Ashton brought the ball at them hard and fast. Judes rose to the challenge with a great defensive set and kept it going in attack , running the ball hard from the forwards and moving it through the backs with ease.
1st half saw alot of end to end rugby with both sets of forwards doing the hard metres and the backs running it from behind.
Judes drew 1st blood with a great worked try with conversion kicked . Ashton not to be out done soon responded in the same manner .
2nd half saw much of the same ...... end to end rugby and neither side wanting to give an inch . Judes scored again giving them the lead once more but Ashton weren't sitting back and soon responded with another great try themselves.
In the end the score ended at 12-12 which was a fair score for both teams in what was a superb game to coach and to watch .

U9s Judes golds 20 v U9s Oldham st Anne’s greens 20

A Great start by the golds today with some awesome passing setting us up for our first try of the game to score down the wing
Some big strong runs from the Oldham lads managed to get them over our line to even the score
We have been working hard on our passing over the last few weeks and today really showed how hard the lads have worked as Oldham couldn’t stop us from scoring down the wings every try today was scored by the ball going through at least 4 sets of hands
Where as Oldham just kept coming down the middle where a few lapses of concentration by the golds in defence let them in
Judes played the better rugby today but the game finished with a draw 20 - 20
Which was a fair result in the end as both teams give it there all for 40 mins
