Leigh Miners 34-0 Wigan St Judes

Judes once again failed to come out the blocks from the start and it wasnt long before Leigh Miners opened up the scoring.  Judes just could not find a way forward and were 24-0 down at half time.

In the second half Judes improved their performance and were unluckly not to post some points on the board, Judes were missing some key players and this gave some of the lads the opportunity to step up with excellant performances from Declan Boyd and Rohan Green greatly increasing their tackle count (Declan being on parr with the tackle machine Harry Stokes and Rohan not far behind) which was pleasing to see.  Outstanding performance by Callum Siddeley who showed that despite his size he tackled and ran with the ball as if he was 6 foot.  The depleted Judes squad were no match for Miners who had enough players on the subs bench to practically put out a fresh team and this did show today.  The lads dug deep in the second half with Max Jones putting in a man of the match performance with a clean break which was certain to be a try, however he was caught before going over the line.  This was not only our best chance of scoring with a couple of sets on the miners line, however it wasnt our day and the final scoreline ended 34-0.

We really need to start putting in performances from the start of the match instead of playing "catch up".

Under 8’s - Maroons

St Judes were ready to travel over th’ill to Clockface of St Helens, boots in one hand and passports in the other.

It was a wet and muddy day, the conditions of the pitch certainly had the makings of a forward’s game.

Captain Luke stepped up and won the toss, Jude’s opted to attack. From the outset, we made some good yards with strong running and brave carries from Edwin, running straight and hard.  Teddy (on Debut) looking good with a blinding run down touch, sitting a few of the opposition down using his trademark handoff. Elusive runs from Fin & Lewis made the opposition sit up and take note that Jude’s were here to give them a game. A notable touchline tackle from a determined Ethan, who’s 1st attempt was half knocked off, stuck with his man and brought him to the floor, great attitude!!  It was an evenly matched quarter with both team’s defences keeping attacks at bay, ending with Clockface touching down in the corner to finish 1-0 to the opposition.

It was apparent in the half time team talk that Jude’s weren’t phased by the score, and were eager to get back on the pitch to even things up.

With immediate strong defence the opposition were starting to show doubt, Edwin made the finest man and ball tackle with the collision being  heard from the opposite touchline, he took an elbow in the throat but still retained his grip to take his man to the floor, simply outstanding display of grit (Which set the scene for his overall performance, well done Edwin!), Ellis defended the touchline with ease using his pace, while Fin was putting lads to the floor for fun with his signature textbook tackling technique. They just couldn’t break our line!

In possession, it was our man Ellis picking up from last week, cutting through the defence with ease to even the score for a long range try. Shortly after, with a lapse in concentration, we allowed the opposition to chalk up a 2-1 score line, but again the lads remained confident.

Lewis, looking dangerous on the ball broke the line every time, making massive yards for Judes. Ruben displayed his usual Maori sidestep, skittling would be tacklers and refusing to be put to the floor. We hit back when Ellis (Usain) Corfield danced through the opposition to even the scores once more.

The scales were finally tipped when Jack Worthy who narrowly missed a try earlier decided to give the same edge another crack, this time beating 3 opponents to touchdown in the corner. With a minute to go Fin nearly cut through the defence and released a great off load, which was just snuffed out by advancing defenders, the second quarter ended 3-2 to Judes.

3rd and 4th Quarters saw Judes apply the pressure, both in Attack and Defence. Jack Worthy was all over the park, flying out of the line to make countless one on one tackles, leaving players on the floor in his wake whilst pushing the opposition towards their own try line.  Notably Jack made three tackles on the bounce to thwart a Clockface’s attack, and taking note of Edwin’s earlier man and ball tackle Jack caught his opposing player in no man’s land to dump player and ball to the floor, great work!

Confident runs from Luke followed, nearly touching down in the corner, while Grace, growing in confidence, stepped up and made a standout tackle, showing some brave straight running at the opposition. Ending with another cracking collision buster from Ethan near the touchline to bundle Clockface into touch.

In the last 2 quarters, the Opposition MOM Rueben kicked up a gear, getting on the scoreboard with a tough unforgiving carry, bashing through unwilling defenders to score on the left. Clock face hit back yet again, but ALL Jude’s stood tall. Rueben decided enough was enough displaying how hard he is to handle, with his never say die attitude, Rueben ‘the wrecking ball’ Charnock charged for the line once more taking 4 opponents over the whitewash with him, to score his Hat trick in the far corner. End of 3rdQuarter 5-3 to Jude’s.

Entering the last quarter Clockface’s heads were down, our strong Defence had won the arm wrestle, we showed controlled aggression in every tackle.  Taking our opportunities when they came, the final try started from halfway, where a last second offload from Jack Worthy landed at the doorstep of Ellis ’I score for fun’ Corfield, there was no doubt from that range he would score, he ran through to clock up his hat trick.

With Jude’s thinking their job was done, Clockface didn’t give up, a very clever switch move that completely bemused the whole team, allowed them to score a well-deserved try in the corner.

Final Score 7-4 to Jude’s.

One point to note, we are extremely proud of the whole team for not getting involved in the niggling from some of the opposition players, we showed confidence in our own abilities rather than getting involved, massive plus point for the future. Well done to everyone who took to the field today, we are immensely proud of each and every one of you.

Under 8’s - Golds

Leigh East Lions 13-3 St Judes Golds

After a short ride over to Leigh our boys were defeated! Leigh East played an awesome game.

1st Quarter

3 minutes in saw Mason Chisnall push through Leigh’s defence to pass to Jack Hill who got Judes’ first Try of the game! Our spirits were soon dampened when Leigh came back with a Try, they seemed unstoppable during the first quarter scoring another 2 tries and our boys found their defence hard to break through making no yards.

2nd Quarter

Judes came back fighting with a better defence, fantastic runs from Big Jack Elwick who wouldn’t go down, Jack Hill, Jack Myers, Tadgh Casey , Kyle Wakelin-Jones – unfortunately it wasn’t enough this quarter saw Leigh score again and again

3rd Quarter

Jack Myers got a brilliant try set up by Archie Unsworth. Our boys fought back with all they had Aston Bailey, Harrison Oakes running straight into Leigh’s defence, taking hit after hit – this quarter saw some injuries Captain for the day Tadgh Casey lost a tooth Jack Hill and Harrison Oakes taking some hard knocks.

4th Quarter

Saw Judes come out again fighting their defence much better making yards quicker – Cody Smith scoring a try – Gabe Mills all over them trying to push through – However it was too late for Judes – Leigh had scored yet again in this quarter making it a Win for them!!
