Wigan St Judes ARLFC – Match Reports

1st Team

Saturday 14th April 2018

St Jude’s disappointing start to the season lingers on with yet another well below par performance away at Hull Dockers losing 29-22. Despite Jude’s showing glimpses of what they can do ,in a game they should a won they just couldn’t put it together. Olumide Oladele, David Fagan, Luke Barrett, Tom Owen, Danny Clayton and Gavin Rodden once again put the hard work in. Ben Fishers 2 Goals and a neat kick through for centre Connor Parkinson’s try we’re  the only highlight of the first half as Jude’s somehow went in at the half 8-6 up. The second half started better for Jude’s with a bit more urgency and determination in their play and a quick Judes attack paid off with yet another neat kick through this time by Gary McMahon and the very brave Ben Fisher pounced on the loose ball under the posts, Fisher slotted over the two to give Jude’s a 14-8 lead. But Hull Dockers hit back with 3 unanswered tries to take a 22-14 lead. Jude’s Huffed and Puffed but still could not find a rhythm in a match they should have won. Man of the Match Gavin Rodden put winger Baz Rothwell away on the left with a neat customary flick pass  for a great try. But Hull hit back once again with the game clinching try right under the posts ,off a Jude’s mistake. With time quickly running out a Judes attack led by Joey Brady and Gavin Rodden who put Full Back Daz Ball away to score under the sticks, but the attempt at goal somehow missed to round off a very disappointing day in Hull. Jude’s did have a try ruled out  under the posts, for crossing but once again Judes where their own worst enemy.

St Judes 86-0 North Wales Crusaders

St Judes were in breath taking form as they swept aside North Wales Crusaders 86-0 in their NWML Div 2 clash at Parsons meadow.
Man of the Match Baz Gregson lead the way with a stunning 5 try performance, whilst Scott Robinson’s 36 point haul must be close to a club record has he scored 3 tries and kicked 11 goals.
Other try scorers in this dominant display were Daryl king (2), Mark Whittaker, Curtis Berry, Robbie Horton, Ben Jones, & Josh Rogerson.
In yet another superb St Judes team performance the attitudes, team spirit, and the discipline in sticking to a game structure were perhaps the most pleasing.
Baz Gregson, Scott Robinson, Josh Rogerson, Daryl King and Dec Parkinson, were the pick of the afternoons top performers.
