Saturday, 16 April 2022MastersArlecdonAway0-0Judes masters travelled over to Arlecdon in west Cumbria on a lovely sunny Easter Saturday. The game was played in great masters spirit and some great rugby played by both sides.

Judes tries came from Martin Fisher, Carl Ford, Paul McCormick, Shaun Hilton and Jon Baldwin.

Special mention to Ian Worthington who played in his 75th Judes masters game.
Thursday, 21 April 202213's - MaroonsWoolstonAway42-12A lovely spring evening and we were up against Woolston Rovers. It’s early days in the league and we are still finding our feet so it would be a good test to see where we were at. Woolston had won 2 out of 2 so far so we knew the Maroons were going to be in for a tough test.
It was very much an arm wrestle in the first 15 minutes or so, some great running as always from Zac, Joel and Reuben really making us great metres but we were just unable to capitalise under the sticks. Woolston finding it hard to get out of their own half for large periods with the Maroons defence holding firm with some great hits by Kaden, Jacob and Edwin. The pressure was definitely starting to tell and we were camped in their final third. Some good running by Harry and Thomas and then Captain Jack found a gap and there was no stopping The Machine going through to open the scoring. A deserved lead for the Maroons and Harley with the conversion to make it 6-0.
The Maroons were in the dominance now and looking to extend their lead, composure was needed, there was no need to rush things. This is where Thomas steps up, this boy is a joy to watch in full flow, he glided past a couple of players and over the line. Harley with the extras. 12-0. The Woolston players were being pressurised by the Maroons defence and were conceding penalties. This gave the Maroons the chance to spread the ball out wide and the ever reliable Jacob went over in the corner. Harley missed a very difficult kick but it was just about a perfect half for the Maroons and it was 16-0 at half time.
Woolston were determined to make a good start to the 2nd half but bodies were put on the line by every one of the Maroons to keep the score to nil. Step up Ellis Corfield, if it is a day that ends in a y there is a very good chance of this lad running the length of the field and pinning his ears back and going under the sticks and Thursday was no different. Harley with the kick at it was 22- 0.
Some good defence by Junior and some big hits from Mikey keeping Woolston out but then they squeezed through to open their account. Kicking their conversion 22-6. Heads did not go down and some fantastic running from Harry and with a precision kick Harley was able to dive on it to score underneath sticks. Great link up play. Harley then converting his own try. 28 6.
Harry then continuing his good play went over himself to extend the lead and Harley converts again. 34-6. Straight from kick off a very unfortunate bounce made the kick go over the sideline. With Woolston just 15 metres out, they were able to break through a resilient Maroons defence. 34-12.
Then some great running again from Joel Makin whose presence grows with every game he plays. A penalty was awarded and Zac made no mistake by bulldozing through to score. Harley with a great kicking display and was able to kick over to make it 40-12 at full time.
A real good test for the boys and they passed it with flying colours. Great to get their first league win on the board and so onwards and upwards from there. Well done everyone!

Judes defended the first set really well, keeping them in their own half, a few great passes of the ball, got it out to Will Cobley, who ran well to get over for the first try of the game, Will converting his own try. 6-0. Newton responded by getting the ball out to one of their strongest players, who crossed the line, conversion missed. 6-4.
Judes used some amazing rugby league skills, getting the ball again to Will Cobley, who got himself his second of the game, conversion missed. 10-4, a couple of sets with no score, Judes drove themselves up the field, using the advantage of getting it out to the wing, when Bailey Hewitt stretched himself to the corner to bag himself the points. Jayden King converting 16-4.
Newton reacted and reacted well getting 2 tries back to back, converting both goals. 16-16.
Just with seconds to go to half time, Tommy ‘gun’ Shaw, used his quick reactions to dive over the try line. Conversion missed. 20-16.

From Kick off Judes received the ball, first set from both teams no score, Judes next set saw Henlea Baynham race with confidence to duck and dive between the Newton defence to score his first of the game. Henlea converting his own try. 26-16.

The home side edged themselves further ahead with another try from Henlea Baynham, Max Lowe converting. 38-16.
Jayden King put in a testing grubber to force an error, Newton knocked on, the return of the possession allowed Jayden King to get some points on the board, Tommy Shaw converting. 44-16. Judes let their defence drop as Newton scored an easy try. Missing the conversion. 44-20.
Judes hit straight back as Cameron Riley went in on the left side immediately after. Conversion missed. 48-20.

Saturday, 23 April 20221st TeamBarrow islandAway24-18St Jude’s 1st team lost a game they probably should have won away to Barrow island, Jude’s started the brighter and scored a great try After 10 minutes Andy Riley hit a great line and stormed in close to the post ,Danny Fallon kicked the goal 0-6
Unfortunately for Andy he picked up an injury when scoring and had to go off ,a big loss ,fallon kicked a penalty to take the score to 0-8,Jude’s were completing there sets at 80% and that pressure led to the next try a chip over from Josh Yates on last tackle was took by winger Lewis Melling and he beat the cover defence stepping through past 3 defenders racing in under the post again it was Danny Fallon converting 0-14
With halftime approaching good hands from Jude’s led to a try by Center James worthington who cut through the Barrow defence to score wide out 0-18 at halftime
It was always going to be a game of two half’s because of the strong wind , and it proved to be the case, maybe Jude’s should have led by a few more points at the break having bombed a few chances ,Jude’s still completing at 75% couldn’t get the field position to score ,and a high penalty count cost Jude’s the game , Barrow scored the winning try with 4 minutes to go win the game 24-18
Great effort from the lads and the disappointment was there to see
Mom for Jude’s went to captain josh Hill , both half’s josh Yates and Jacob Dugdale had outstanding games as did Tom Owen ,Danny Fallon,, and James worthington,Conner Parkinson
Unlucky boys
Up the Jude’s
Next week at home to Bradford Dudley Hill 2-30 ko

Blackbrook v Judes

Today U15s travelled to Blackbrook looking for a win .
Judes , having had 2 poor training sessions this week , looked up for it in the changing rooms and for the 1st 15 minutes they were.
Blackbrook scores 1st but Judes weren't letting them get away and scored not long afterwards . Blackbrook again scored and Judes answered , taking the lead at half time 8-10.
The 2nd half Judes were all at see , a few good plays , a few good tackles but it was Blackbrook on the çharge taking the lead 16-10 at full time .
Judes ability is there and expectations of this team have always been good but on the back of a few losses , a few poor training sessions we need to get back to the drawing board with ALL players playing as 1 team .
MOM today goes to Alex , played very well and showed great improvement

Sunday, 24 April 202212'sThatto HeathAway22-28Thatto Heath U12s v St Judes U12s

Sunday 24th April 2022
Away (cup match)
28-22
(Lost)

Despite the narrow defeat, St Judes put on a thrilling display and showed solid signs of improvement. Judes defended well from the kick off and worked hard to pile the pressure on Thatto Heath and force the opposition into errors.

Great hands created opportunities out wide with Alfie English going in for the first try of the game. A clever kick-off forced Thatto into a handling error which gave Judes a good position to mount an attack. Silky handling skills set up the space for Ben Green to go in for Judes' second try.

Judes continued to exploit the weaknesses in the Thatto defence by shipping the ball left and right which exposed a gap for Ben Green to score Judes' third try of the game. At 0-16, St Judes went into the break with a commanding lead over the opposition.

Thatto Heath came out fighting in the second half and scored an early try. Judes continued to work hard for each other and defended well under pressure. Fullback, George Burrows put in an excellent cover tackle to prevent a try (his second of the game).
Unfortunately for Judes, Thatto found their feet and scored two further tries in the second half. With just a couple of minutes remaining, Judes pounded the Thatto line with Ben Green eventually going in for his hat trick. The try was converted by Layton Dewhurst (his third of the game) to bring Judes within two points of Thatto.

Unfortunately, Thatto sealed the victory with a try in the dying seconds of the game. Despite the scoreline, the Judes lads can be really proud of their performance today with some excellent rugby on display.
