Saturday, 9 April 20221st TeamDewsbury MoorHome36-12St Jude’s 1st team were 36-12 winners over Dewsbury Moor in an entertaining NCL Division 2 clash at Parsons Meadow.
St Jude’s dominated field position in the first half but Dewsbury moor scored first against run of play 6-0 them. A James Worthington break got St Jude’s back on the front foot straight away and good work on the left edge led to Connor Parkinson running in under the sticks 6-6. Danny Fallon added a penalty 8-6 then followed that up with a try himself after a nice little kick and collect by himself 14-6 half time.

Second half St Jude’s dominated and it wasn’t long before second row forward Kieran Rennox extended St Jude’s advantage again from nice play by Fallon on the left edge.

St Jude’s really started to turn the screw and following some patient build up play Jacob Dugdale raced in to score 2 tries in as many minutes, one of which being a great solo effort to take the game away from Dewsbury moor. Connor Parkinson wrapped up the scoring before a late Dewsbury moor consolation try full time 36-12
Best for Jude’s we’re MOM Danny Fallon, James Worthington, & Jacob Dugdale. A final mention must go to the entire St Jude’s pack who all worked tirelessly and effectively all afternoon.
Saturday, 9 April 2022A TeamGolbourne ParksideAway4-34Wigan St Jude’s A’team tasted defeat for the first time the season going down 34-4, away at local side Golbourne Parkside in their Division 2 top of the table clash.
This was a gutsy display from 16 man Judes side that included retired players Dean Hunt and Jason Lawton, who had held their own for much of the game and with a Brett Taberner try, they trailed only 12-4 at the break.
However the luxury of interchangeable forwards gave the home a big advantage in the second half and saw them take control and eventually win the game 34-4.
Stand out performers for St Jude’s, were Robbie Lindley, Deacon Ashcroft, Will Prior and Danny Clayton.
Sunday, 10 April 202213's - MaroonsHalton HornetsHome22-30Sunday morning at the Meadow and the Judes Maroons were up against Halton Farnworth Hornets A.R.L.F.C Under 13s. The hornets looked like a big side, even the small lads were built like tanks. Hopefully we would be able to limit their sting.
Some great running by Zac, Joel and Edwin getting us up the pitch, the hornets were very strong in the tackle so it was proving difficult to make great metres. Then on the last tackle for the hornets they got over in the far corner. 4-0. Kick was difficult and they were unable to press home the advantage. Some great defence for Judes with some notable tackling by Lennon, Jacob and the returning machine Jack Worthington keeping Halton out.
Great running by Harry and Judes moved it left to Jacob who went over in the corner, we were back on level terms with some great running rugby. It was a tough conversion for Harley. 4-4.
Judes confidence was up now and they were moving the ball around well, unfortunately there was an intercept and Halton were able to march over to regain the lead under the posts. The try was duly converted 10-4 to Halton. Some great defence for Halton again stopping the Maroons progressing up the field and they then went over themselves. 16-4. It was an end to end match and Judes were by no means out of this as the score line may have suggested. Some great running by Scott Junior and we got to the last kick, it will spilled on the line and Caden was over to score in the corner. We were back in the game. Another tough kick on the edge was not converted. 16-8.
Confidence was high now the Judes were playing some good rugby, Thomas and Harry pulling the strings and Captain Jack went over on the left edge. 16-12 to Halton at half time.
A strong start for the second half was needed and with some fantastic running by Joel Makin, he is improving week on week, the ball made its way to Zac and he powered his way over in true Zac style. 16-16. Harley adding the extras to give Judes the lead for the first time in the match 18-16.
Halton then got through again to regain the lead. This match could go either way now. 20-18 to Halton. Then Jacob stepped up again, he has had a great match to give Judes the lead again. 22-20.
Unfortunately a bit of indiscipline and Halton took advantage, after a penalty they powered their way through and took the lead and then to compound it all they went over in the last minute to cement their victory. 30-22.
A tough result for Judes as the match could have gone either way at the end.
Reminds me of a great quote ‘If you learn from defeat, you haven’t really lost’. Eddie the Eagle 1988’. Well played everyone!
Sunday, 10 April 202218'sLeigh MinersAway20-28Today was going to be a tough, physical fixture at Leigh Miners, we were low on numbers and numerous players coming off injured, proved to much for us in the end.

Judes started well with inventive play from Callum S, kicking right from the scrum for Daniel to chase, he skimmed his opposite, but sadly pulled up with a hamstring injury, forcing him out the game. McKenzie W came on to replace him and proved a worthy substitution when the ball got to him on the wing and a good step inside saw him diving over to get us on the board. Miners respond with back to back tries from 2 Judes errors, putting them ahead 8-4. Judes were quick with their response and off the back of a Miners knock-on, the resulting scrum was in Miners half and only the second play of the ball saw Calum Palmer burst onto the ball and with several Leigh defenders clinging to him, fought his way to the line and scored a formidable try, gaining him the Man of the Match Award! With a successful conversion, Judes were back in front 8-10 and on the front foot.

Leigh Miners tried to chip over our line, but good defence charged the ball, which kindly bounced into the hands of Logan who reacted and got the ball away. The ball passed to Brogan who like last week showed great speed and strength to fight his way to the line and score at the side of the sticks, for a slightly easier conversion for Callum S. Next to add to our injury woes was Calum P, who had to come off with a suspected broken thumb. Meanwhile, another error by Judes gifted Miners a scrum on half-way and they spread the ball to create the overlap and score, Judes should have been tightening the screw just before half time, instead they invited Miners back in the game, ending the half with a slender 4 point lead.

At half time our coach called for more aggressive play, tighten up in defence and cut out the errors. Judes started well and thankfully Calum P was able to come back, to add some much needed strength in the middle. Two good defensive efforts from both teams, denied either scoring, although Judes started to show some good shape and with quick hands got the ball out to McKenzie W, who started on half-way and with great footwork, found his way to the line, for an impressive finish and his second try. Miners had far more size in their forwards and had punished us down the middle, add to that a bench that was full of injuries, with Joe, James and Brogan also leaving the field, Leigh started to break our line. Judes still competed and did lead for a lot of the game, but 2 soft tries from lacking defence nudged our opponents ahead. We did try to pull it back, but a Judes knock on gifts the ball to Miners in the dying minutes, who punish us right on the whistle to pull a score ahead and a conversion seals the game 28-20 to Miners.

We knew today was going to be tough, you have to take your full squad over to Leigh and be on the top of your game. We did let Miners big pack bully us down the middle, but cannot fault the effort of the lads, the lack of subs and injuries is what killed us today. Although disappointing to suffer our first loss, we win as a team and lose as a team……..unlucky boys, nothing we can’t fix and we’ll go again next game.
