St judes travelled away to top of the table Stanningley in what was a 1st v 2nd clash and it was Stanningley who came away with the bragging rights with a very controlled home win 33-18. In very hot conditions the early exchanges were even Olumide Oladele, Tom Owen, Baz Rothwell, Dave Fagan and Danny Fallon carrying the ball with intent and Nathan Bevan, Paul Pendlebury, Connor Parkinson Gav Rodden and Danny Clayton stopping Stanningley’s attacks. On 27 mins the deadlock was broken when a Judes error and indiscipline opened the door for Stanningley to score and take the lead. On 35 mins Judes finally broke Stanningley’s stubborn defence when classy centre Connor Parkinson broke free And dummied the Stanningley full back to score a great try, Fisher goaled 6 all. And before you new it Judes were on the charge again when from a mistake by Stanningley the resulting scrum on the Jude’s 25 mts line Gav Rodden broke away on a 75 mts run down the right to score a blinder of a try, but then cruel luck he had to leave the field of play with an injury, Ben Fisher goaled and Judes had a 12-6 interval lead which on the possession of play was probably just right. Then came a 10 min nightmare spell early in the second half as Stanningley scored 14 unanswered points and from this period the home side grew in confidence. Baz Rothwell was working overtime with Stanningley’s clever kicks along with Ben Jones and Daz Ball who both were very lively.Later in the game judes gave themselves a sniff of a chance when great hands from left to right on the Stanningley 25 Paul Pendlebury hit the gap to find Baz Rothwell who scored wide out, Ben Fisher goaled. But Stanningley still had more as they ran out 33-18 winners. Looking back Judes made 3 bad errors and on all occasions Stanningley scored 6 pointers. With 5 away games gone and only one win this is not promotion form.
Man of the Match NCL…Paul Pendlebury..solid Game at centre.
Man of the Match Sponsor…Baz Rothwell…another great performance.
