Wigan st Judes first team ground out a hard fought 16-6 victory at the meadow against newly promoted Drighlington. The first half was a very tough affair with chances few and far between and both sets of forwards bashing anything that moved. Man of the Match Nathan Bevan was always keeping the visitors on their toes with several scooting runs from half back and he well deserved the award.Forwards Tom Owen, Dave Fagan, Brett Taberner, Oly Oladele and Leon Harber were well up for this game and Drighlington new it was going to be tough. Backs John Darbyshire,  Paul Pendlebury,  Barry Rothwell, Daz Ball and Nathan Jones tried hard to unlock a very tight Drighlington defence and you new they would eventually crack with Judes having their fair share of the ball and on 30mins Tom Owen hit the line and he flicked out a sweet pass to Paul Pendlebury who shot in by the posts, John Darbyshire slotted over the two. This was quickly followed by a Barry Rothwell try when he gathered his own grubber kick which kindly bounced for him and judes went in at the half 10 nil up. The second half was a carbon copy of the first very tight once again forwards on top for both teams Luke Barrett, Keiron Gaskell and Tye Forde came on as Judes rotated their forwards.  On 50 mins Paul Pendlebury found a bit of space where he put in a neat chip kick near the line were Conner Parkinson gladly accepted as he scored wide out,John Darbyshire goaled to give Judes a 16-0 lead. On 57 mins a massive brawl broke out and this changed the shape of the game slightly but Judes still had the upper hand just. Drighlington piled on the pressure and late on only for some brave last ditch tackles in particular Keiron Gaskells effort to hold up the Drighlington player on the line to save a certain score which at the time would have put the visitors in with a chance, the saying `Have Pride in your Try line` stands out.Drighlington did eventually get on the score sheet when after a very lucky bounce their scrum half dropped on a loose ball, but Judes were not going to lose this one and hopefully they will build on this hard fought win.
