Wigan St Judes showed plenty of resilience away at Thornhill Trojans and despite going down to a very cruel score line of 34-4 there was plenty for the coaches to like. The first half Judes line speed and contact was very good and whatever Thornhill had to offer Judes held their own. Forwards young Leon Harber, Tom Owen, Oly Oladele, Nathan Bevan ,Ryan Ainscough, and Man of the Match Gavin Rodden worked their socks off as did Half Backs John Darbyshire and Paul Pendlebury who tried to unlock a stubborn Thornhill Defence. The cruel bit is that judes could easily have led but for the final pass going astray and the halftime score of 8-0 to home side was hard to bare.

The second half Thornhill did get stronger and they used their sloping pitch well to their advantage. Nathan Jones was always a handful with the ball in hand and Richard Gibson, Michael Gibson, Joey Brady and Barry Rothwell worked hard taking the ball in when called upon. Gavin Rodden for his efforts scored probably the try of the match when from his own 25 he burst through and raced away with the whole of Thornhill after him as they were determined to keep clean sheet, he could easily have scored earlier when he dribbled the ball 40 yards up the pitch only for it to be kicked dead by the home side..Judes will take some good things from this and little things do make a big difference.

Man of the Match Gavin Rodden.
